I was excited about getting this whistle to add to my collection. I do a lot of hiking with the kids and want them to have a safety whistle out in the woods. I also coach soccer and use a whistle to ref games. I currently have the Fox howler for the kids and use the Fox classic 40 for myself. This whistle however, does not compare and is very weak. It is possible that mine is defective. I plugged one side at a time to test. One side was very weak..the other not much better. I would return mine, but don't know if it is worth the hassle. I tinker a lot and consider myself fairly handy. So I tried to figure it out. I believe because of the design it will be a hit or miss from whistle to whistle. On the other hand, I have never had a faulty fox and I believe it is because of the design. You can get a 2 pack of the howlers for about the same price. They are light, small and compact. I don't usually review items, but I was real disappointed. I hope this helps. BTW, I'm not Margaret.
